Project Mission Statement:

The NPOESS Data Exploitation (NDE) project provides the only link between the civilian community of satellite data users and the NPOESS satellites and ground systems. Beginning in 2007 with the risk reduction NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) satellite, the advanced technologies aboard the NPOESS satellites will transmit a large data stream, containing many new environmental measurements. NPOESS ground systems will package that data into intermediate product forms and deliver it to NOAA. It is at this point that the NDE project assumes the function of altering the products to satisfy the unique requirements of many different user organizations and disseminating the products and services to them in near-real time.

The NDE systems will generate new and improved products, will provide customer services, will generate the same kinds of products and formats that NOAA currently provides, and will support the archiving and access of the data for the long term.
