The products derived from the NPOESS-era instruments will offer NOAA and other civilian users details of the atmosphere and surface at higher resolutions and from parts of the spectrum not previously available. Once the NPOESS SafetyNet capability is in place (ca 2015), near-real time observations will be available in less than a half hour after observation. The products will be in much larger datasets and configured in different ways. In short, users will have to make a variety of adjustments to their systems to take advantage of the potential offered by improved NPP and NPOESS products. NDE’s Systems Integration Coordinator is dedicated to assisting the community to make these changes in a timely manner so that benefits can be achieved as soon as possible. NDE Systems Integration Organization Chart Teams will be established and deployed to Line Office (Operating Centers) to support effective implementation of NPP and NPOESS products by NOAA’s end users. The NDE Systems Integration Coordinator is responsible for the establishment and performance of these teams. The associated roles include: Coordination with the Program Managers of the NOAA Goal Teams to: Identify the NOAA organizations that will participate in NPOESS data exploitation Identify staff within the target organizations to serve as points of contact with NDE Ensure that resources from target organizations are allocated appropriately to perform NPOESS data exploitation activities Establish Product Integration Teams: Ensure that NOAA Operating Branch personnel assigned to the NDE project have well defined and appropriate roles Develop performance-based contractual relationships with qualified professional services firms to provide personnel to perform NDE-related tasks in end user organizations Provide guidance and direction to Product Integration Team leaders: Ensure that the Integration Teams are fully informed of relevant NDE policies and procedures Ensure that the Integration Teams are performing tasks consistent with the objectives of the NDE Project Monitor and evaluate the performance of Integration Team members Provide guidance and oversee the relationships between NOAA and the professional services firm(s) by whom the contracted personnel are employed Ensure that the assignments provided to the contractors are consistent with the objectives of the NDE Project Monitor the performance of contract personnel assigned to NDE Inform contractor management of NOAA’s level of satisfaction with contractor performance during status meetings held at least once a month.
